five minute friday {story}

August 2, 2013Karen Courcy

Tell-Your-StoryWelcome to five minute Friday to where us bloggers are given a word prompt and write for just 5 minutes simply for the joy of writing.

No editing or backtracking. No need to be perfect. Just words freely flowing from my heart to yours.

Today’s Five minute Friday word is {Story}

I am in the process of writing my book. I have an editor, I have the name of the book, I have the story in my head on how I want to tell my story about the child sexual abuse I endured as a child.. the only thing missing is the courage to write it, and to be with it fully enough to heal from it and not only write it.

I have tried to write this book for many years and had to stop, start up again, stop again while I work hard in therapy to help heal the many painful wounds that still sit deep within me.

A couple of months ago I found an editor willing to work with me on the book and we are looking to get this book written and published by the end of this year.

It’s not going to be an easy story to write, and it’s painful on many levels – but at the same time it’s rewarding and healing. It gives me the chance to have the voice I never had and to connect and reach out to others who have been through what I have been through.

I want to write this book to show people that you can survive horrific abuse, you can talk about it with your voice, and you can heal and overcome it.

I look forward to the day I hold the book in my hands knowing my voice matters, and my story will be held by others.

    I admire that you can sit down and set a time limit and write on a subject so fluently without revisions. I tense up just thinking about it.

    “Story Medicine” is the term I’ve heard used for what you describe doing with your writing. It means that part of our healing happens when we share our story with others. It’s healing for us and it’s healing for others who listen. I think it’s wonderful what you are doing.

    Congratulations on getting an editor and a book project. It is so brave to write about your hardest experiences, and writing these honestly takes real courage. Others will be blessed because of your willingness to write your story. You can do it. Thanks for sharing today – I’m here with Five Minute Friday. 🙂

    Yes. Your story matters. Praying you have courage for that. I know the feeling and I hope that whatever barriers are in the way get broken in His perfect timing.

    I thank God for giving you the courage to write your story. I know that He will be with you every step of the way. And when it gets hard, He will carry you through! Blessed by your writing at the 5MF!

    I have written at length about past traumatic experiences. It is not easy but most definitely cathartic. Having a timetable might feel tough at times, but it will also nudge you through the most difficult parts. Prayers for strength
